Lupus, an Inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues.
Wow! Could you imagine waking up one morning and every joint throughout your body feels as if they have been snapped. What if you were to go into the bathroom, and upon checking your reflection you noticed a small, butterfly shaped rash cover your cheeks and nose area? Let’s not forget the fatigue that follows. I could sit here and educate you for days on the facts of dealing with Lupus. Many consider this disease so hard to understand, that even a few doctors have had to get a second opinion to give to their patients. Treatment, can help, but this condition can’t be cured. Now, that we’ve established some facts let’s cut the myths and kill the noise. For those of you who seem to think, that people living with Lupus are supposed to look a certain way on the outside? You’re so vain and I feel sorry for you. You see, the ugliest disease inhabits some of the most beautiful souls. Personally, I have the honor of knowing quite a few of these beautiful people. Contrary to what society thinks, there are gorgeous little girls living with Lupus amongst us. They still have all their long pretty locks, they still smile, and from looking at them, one would never notice that little girl has lupus. The same goes for Adult women. The world seems to think that anything involving any form of radiation treatment, causes hair loss. In most cases, it may and can happen but, I cannot count how many women are still waking to a head full of naturally beautiful hair. Now, men I am not excluding you all, because some of you are living with this disease as well. Let’s take the legendary singer Seal. I’m sure some of you are familiar with his hit “Kiss from A Rose” he’s living with discoid lupus erythematosus. This condition affects the skin above the neck. Though its caused lots of scarring to his face, it does not take away from his Angelic voice. I say that just to say this, Lupus is the new beautiful, and if anyone thinks otherwise, you should take a second look in the mirror.
